Observation details
The bird was found at the west end of the northern campgrounds (near the group campgrounds) where we found a kettle of turkey vultures. Out of the blue a crow started calling and chasing one vulture so we pulled our bins up and immediately saw the silver wingtips and broader wings and grey face. It was quite low and we were watching it for 10-15 seconds before it disappeared behind the trees going north. Took some photos that distinctly show the coloration and eagle like wings. Possibly the rarest bird i have ever found and a first of durham for me (first in eight years for dad in durham).
