Observation details
This is a tentative ID, and would not be listed as such if this were my county bird. But seeing as though I've now received unanimous feedback from over ten birders that this is a Cassin's I think I will make the change. This is a species which I was only somewhat familiar with, so while this call that was very Cassin's-esque yet strayed some from the familiar-to-me "tee-dilup!" was not enough to convince me at the time. But in addition to the feedback, I made a trip to Siskiyou and Modoc Counties about two months later and recorded several seen Cassin's Finch making this exact same call. So I am happy enough assigning this record to species. Original descp as Pufi/Cafi: Audio tba. Almost all feedback I’ve received has favored Cassins Finch. My immediate initial impression was that this bird was a Cassins Finch but within only a couple calls I was unsure it wasn’t a Purple Finch. It called for about two minutes of which I recorded the last ~15 seconds before it took off from its perch (about 15s in on in the recording) and flew off, when to me it sounded more like a Cassins. tba. Almost all feedback I’ve received has favored Cassins Finch.
