Observation details
Field notes: Olive-gray upperparts most colorful on back. Bill width intermediate. High contrast between white wingbars/tertial edges and rest of wing. Lower mandible nearly completely yellowish in direct sunlight. Short primary projection creates long tailed appearance. Complete eyering, slight teardrop towards rear. Silent; no playback used, but audio obtained by others eliminates Hammond’s. Big head, GISS (general impression of size and shape) fits Least. GISS is largely subjective, but I find it a particularly useful tool in Empidonax identification where gray areas in plumage & bill pattern exist across different species.
