Observation details
Tentative ID, comments welcomed. Like AMWI but bill too long, head too elongated, body too elongated. Definitely AMWI is one parent; not sure about the other, e.g. bill reminds me of Pintail. Associating with Gadwall, and fairly similar in shape. I just can't image a wigeon could get a bill and head shape like that, along with somewhat elongate body, without some genetic contribution from other dabblers, maybe F2/backcross route. Update: Paul Dickson tells me he thinks it's just an AMWI, an HY male, and is not impressed with its un-wigeonlikeness. Steve Mlodinow also sent me a photo of a ird he had originally thought was a hybrid but was also told it was just AMWI.
