Observation details
10:35 am - Four possible kites seen at considerable distance to the NW of the tower. Unfortunately none of these could be confirmed. 10:55 am - Dark morph bird was seen in the sky to the NW of the tower at high altitude and gliding back and forth from that point. Head large with respect to the size of the bird, with a large, hooked bill as seen first with 10x binoculars and then with 20x scope. Dark above and below with no discernible marks except for broad white band in tail. Wings relatively short and very broad, paddle shaped and pinched in at the body. Probable male but not able to confirm this. Photos attached. 11:05 am - Light morph bird seen shortly after the dark morph. Appearance of rufous in primaries points to female, and broad white bands in tail point to adult. Again, wings relatively short and very broad, seen as a paddle shape and pinched in at the body. Photos attached.
