Observation details
Mixed in with Dunlin & Sanderlings at roost on inside of spit, occasionally foraging around kelp at waterline. Slightly shorter and dumpier than Dunlins standing next to it, but about the same body size. The first thing I noticed was the beautiful chevrons & spotty streaks running down its flanks all the way to its belly. Yellow legs, decurved bill much shorter than Dunlin, with orangey base to bill. Grayish hood around head, unstreaked. Back dark gray and scaly looking, with a grayish-purple cast and dark centers to feathers. Digiscoped photos.
