Observation details
Late migrant. First thought it was a late Turkey Vulture, soaring with wings held in a dihedral. Juvenile with many thin tail bands and one thicker sub terminal band, all black above, including feathered head visible in photos--attached, trailing edges of wings nearly straight unlike in dark phase Red-tailed Hawk. Also seen and photographed by Ken Bales at adjacent Leonora Curtin Wetland Preserve this morning.
