Note the dark crown contrasting with the pale lower portion of the cheek as the bird has it's head turned backwards preening.
Observation details
Hanging out with a flock of Coots near the far shoreline pretty much straight across the lake from the boat launch at Boat launch C. My photos (taken at 80x with my Nikon P900 camera) are poor, but do show the pale cheek contrasting with the dark crown, typical of female BLSC. I got good scope views several times over the course of an hour and a half observing this bird. The bird appeared to be resting most of the time, as I only saw it dive one time. At times, it would start preening (as can be seen in two of my photos). New country bird for me.
