Observation details
Wow. Continuing individuals moving around frequently at the large hillside area with numerous oak trees here (37.9072126, -122.6140426). Stunning bird to see in Marin, and no doubt a favorite woodpecker sp., regardless of location. Three birds for sure, seen perched all together in a single tree at some distance. Individual birds seen better close up at various points. Pretty sure there are two immatures and a single adult based on what I could distinguish in the field and in photos of the immature bird(s). One with slightly more rose coloration in the face and white speckling on the nape than the other immature, with no white in nape and a darker face. Adult distinctive; pulchritudinous.
