Observation details
Male. With a group of Red-winged Blackbirds. If one stays on all paths from the parking lot heading north (to your right), there is a peninsula with the picnic tables and a swampy area at the end of the point. The blackbirds were active there @ 9:30 am. Very black individual. Gray edgings on primary feathers (newly molted?) No rufous. Nice long pointed bill, longer than Red-wing’s. Prominent white median coverts topped with deep cardinal red (no orange cast) lesser coverts. But of course, much of the time only a small piece of the white median coverts were revealed. Squared off tail (even-length two part lobes at rest). Used scope throughout walk, highly recommended for the area. Cropped, but untouched photos.
