Media notes
Sample in one spot from a 1+ mile stretch where they were dense and ubiquitous along the trail & in the adjacent woods. Recorded at 6:29 PM ( 1/2 hour after sunset).
Observation details
* Estimate revised upward * after reviewing audio. Clearly there are dozens in this recording, which was sampled at just one spot along a 1+ mile stretch where the birds were dense and constantly seen and heard. So 150+ would not be out of the question. Not an exact count (that would have been impossible) but basically duplicate-free because we were walking in one direction as they were settling into the woods for the night, and none were calling on the return lag. Crazy large fallout with numerous birds non-stop along the trail, train tracks & adjacent woods all the way from the parking lot (@mile 46.85) to mile 48. Very vocal with "tseet" (feeding birds mostly) & alarm calls (from those settling in to roost in the woods). Unfortunately only one decent audio file due to the constant traffic noise from the Fryeburg Fair exodus on nearby Rt. 113.
