Observation details
At the DOFAW baseyard of all places. Singing from top of small tree. Unmistakable. Very dark bird, black crest, black bill, white rump when it flew away. Heard vocalizations. Not fully established yet on Maui (thankfully), but the first sighting was last year and there have been a few recordings since then at different locations. This is possibly the same individual that was spotted at this same spot a few times over the past year. Attached are two stills from a video I recorded of the bird. Silhouette is very distinct and white rump is seen in the second image as it flew away. Sorry for potato quality.
