Media notes
In this picture are an American Kestrel and three Northern Flicker. A fourth NOFL was out of frame in the left snag. Observed interesting behavior: the NOFL and a BLJA were first very curious about the Kestrel. Then, one flew to the snag right under it. It hopped up the snag until the AMKE took a swipe at it; the AMKE opened its wings, fell backward, and then descended to a few feet below the snag. The NOFL hopped up again, and this time, the AMKE took off, pursued by the four NOFL. A few minutes later, I encountered the AMKE and four NOFL on a different snag further along the pasture. This time, all four were in branches close to the AMKE. Once again, a NOFL chased the AMKE off the snag, and all four pursued it in flight.
