A female Red-tailed Black-Cockatoo shredding a Marri (Corymbia calophylla) fruit to extract the seeds.
Observation details
Adults feeding on Marri fruits and calling. The seeds from the fruits (or gumnuts) of the Marri (Corymbia calophylla) are a preferred food of the south-western Australian naso race of the Red-tailed Black-Cockatoo. Six adult Cockatoos were feeding, preening and calling in Marris near the edge of the Serpentine River.
