Observation details
When I first arrived at the park, I saw one flying by and immediately recognized it as a LEWO by its dark color (backlit) and overall woodpecker shape. As I headed further into the bay I observed 3 birds sitting at the very top bare branches of a pine and they periodically flew out to hawk insects. A few minutes later the birds started to fly to the largest tree top in the middle of the largest boulder in the middle of the bay. First 3 and then more and more flew in. Over the next 30+ minutes I got great views and photos as the whole group flew in and out of this tree hawking and resting. Quite a show!
