Wild caught Habronattus formosus male performing a "typica"” courtship display in response to a female model. Substrate-borne vibratory song recorded using a laser Doppler vibrometer on a nylon surface. H. formosus is a member of the clypeatus species group and are characterized as a "stilting" species. Stilting species have elaborate third leg ornamentation and perform courtship displays emphasizing those ornaments. (Rivera et. al In Revision). Locality information represents the field collection site, not the captive recording site (which was a lab at University of California, Berkeley). Date represents the date of the recording.
