Observation details
Swimming in shallow water at S end of pond, among yellowlegs. Viewed from platform on E shore. Much smaller than LEYE. Clearly a phalarope in basic plumage, plain silvery gray upperparts, plain white underparts, dark mark behind eye, swimming on the water while foraging. Distinguished from RNPH by plain silvery gray upperparts (rather than streaked dark gray). From REPH by long thin needle-like bill. (Rather than thick short blunt-tipped bill). From both by solidly white rump and plain gray upperwings (no wingbar) visible in flight, when yellowish legs also visible. Mostly feeding w/ head submerged rather than spinning. Distant doc shots. Reported here a couple of weeks ago, maybe same continuing.
