Observation details
Small seabird seen on the Northwestern side of MacArthur Lake. Seen on the water, about 30 - 50 yards away from the shore. Diving very frequently. Noticeably smaller than nearby American Coots. I have exact Coordinates to the location we saw it if needed. Seen at 7:36 AM. Short stubby bill that appeared white, or clear(ish). Top of the head was black, which extended down past the eye, and turned into white just above where the headed turned to neck. Black went onto nape as well. White Neck. Black/grayish back. White belly. The bird appeared low to the water when floating. Saw in flight once, and it appeared to have short wings and wingbeats. I have one short video of the bird flying (very bad quality) and several decent photos.
