Observation details
First heard calling in flight then watched three large, long-winged Pluvialus land on mudflat on east side of Pond 1W. Crisp pointillistic patterning on golden upperparts suggests juvenile birds. Prominent pale supercilium. Thinner bill than Black-bellied Plover; buffy underwing—no black axillaries. Scared off (along with other birds) by weirdly low hovering helicopter.
