Observation details
Continuing immature bird found and reported yesterday by the Arnold family. First seen perched low above the water immediately along the edge of the river, about 50 yards south of the small bridge crossing the slough that flows in just north of the Murdoch's warehouse. The bird then flew up and perched briefly in a Russian olive on the west side of the river, before flying back into the wooded area with several small ponds just to the west. Small, petite heron with reddish neck, greenish back, green crown/crest, and bright yellow legs. Aged as an immature based on streaking on neck, small white spots on wings, and overall duller coloration than an adult. Documentation-quality photos obtained. My first sighting of this species in Wyoming! Huge thank you to the Arnolds for finding this bird and reporting it on eBird with a good description of the location.
