Observation details
Almost certainly three different individuals seen from the boardwalk to the island! The first bird was flying east along the south shore of the lake and disappeared into the bay at the southeast corner. As my family and I continued along the boardwalk to the island, a second bird flew out from the north shore of the island to land at the edge of the rushes along the lake shore north of the boardwalk. Fantastic scope views of this bird for at least 15 minutes as it stalked along the edge of the reeds, occasionally passing out of sight behind clumps but mostly in view along the lake edge. We watched it catch fish about the size of its bill at least three times. Eventually I lost sight of it in the reeds and continued walking around the island. As we returned across the boardwalk I spotted it again, and while watching it another Bittern flushed from very close to me south of the boardwalk and flew to the south shore of the lake.
