Observation details
Feeding on Indian Flame Tree (Erythrina indica) flowers with Rainbow Lorikeets. Perth’s large population of feral Rainbow Lorikeets was established in the late 1960s from aviary escapees, with a few birds living on the campus of the University of Western Australia. The population now numbers in the thousands, and the Lorikeets are largely restricted to the developed areas on the Swan Coastal Plain. Flocks of Rainbow Lorikeets sometimes include a few feral Red-collared Lorikeets.
