Observation details
In a few large flocks of Black Storm-Petrels feeding near the tuna pens (31.624, -116.831) we estimated 10 Wilson's Storm-Petrels were present. First a single bird, then joined by a second at 0853, four all together (see group photo) in a single view at 0859, and by 0919 we were able to get 8-9 in one sweep. Given that there were 2-3 large assemblages of Black Storm-Petrels, we felt 10 was a safe estimate of the true number of Wilson's present. All showed various signs of molt in primaries or secondaries. The storm-petrels showed extensive white on the rump, wrapping around into the under tail and lower belly, with characteristic feet extension visible beyond tail. A high count for Mexico it seems, with just 6 prior eBird records of single individuals.
