Observation details
Audio added; this bird was first heard by multiple residents on several nights prior to this date, since ~September 5. It has not yet been observed, primarily because it only calls once every 1-5 minutes and ranges widely across the residential area among the thousands of Bonin petrels. The call is very loud relative to the Bonins and has been heard from inside houses. Although this seems to most resemble a Newell's Shearwater call, the timing of its appearance and behavior seem especially odd.
