Observation details
I suspected Orchard Oriole for the reasons cited below, but was also grateful to get confirmation from a local expert before making this report. This bird appeared to me to have a "cute look" / rounded head (versus flatter head of Hooded). Length of tail is a bit tricky in these photos, the last photo is closest I could get to a side-on shot, but at least in this photo, the tail is shorter than the wing length (from bend in wing to end of wing). It twitched its tail a fair amount while perched. It was making soft chuck calls fairly regularly as it foraged (audio attached, along with photos I obtained when it alighted briefly atop a nearby ceonothus). It was working the bottle brush tree on Beach Street that is just to the left of 301 Beach Street.
