NOTES: (Range Status: Range Extension. Cover Density: Thick.) Initially identified as Clytoctantes sp. nov. ID changed 6 Jan. 1993 JWG per T. Parker. These recordings were made over a period of one hour ten minutes during which we were never able to see the bird perched even though it flew right at us (once coming within a meter of our heads) in response to playback. It would always sing from a hidden perch in thick vegetation. Airborne, it was the correct size, shape, and color for Clytoctantes although we never could ascertain bill shape. Moreover, T.A. Parker confirmed this was the same song that he heard (unrecorded) in a nearby area from a bird that he believed was Clytoctantes. Response to playback: Approach. Habitat: Rainforest.
