Observation details
Large calidris sandpiper foraging with the peeps. 2 or 3 times the size of Western Sandpipers. Dull yellowish legs. Scaly upperparts with flecks of rufous. Throat and breast were buffy and covered with a dense array of fine gray streaks that truncated abruptly at the white belly. Medium length bill was slightly decurved. Crown was rufous brown bordered below by a whitish supercilium over a thin dusky ocular line. Sometimes walked with a strutting gait I associate with this species. I came back for photos later when the light was stronger but bird had vanished.
