Observation details
Unmistakable based on plumage and behavior. Female or first-fall male. Gray head with throat appearing a little lighter. Yellow base to the flight feathers, orangish-yellow sides (the orangish tint suggesting a first-fall male?), and yellow base to the tail. Fanning and raising tail periodically as it actively foraged mid-canopy. Also observed the characteristic wing-drooping behavior. Sallied out to fly-catch a couple of times as well. Approximate location: 45.42029, -117.30562. I have a distant handheld iPhone video, which shows behavior and brief glimpses of the fanned tail with yellow base. However, apparently only a limited testing group is permitted to upload video to eBird checklists. Attached are three very low-resolution frames from the video. I have observed this species many times, including in the ABA Area, Mexico, Central America, and the West Indies.
