Observation details
Reasonably confident that these are Cypseloides cryptus. Sometimes lower, almost over falls, today. Very hard to detect any chestnut. One bird appeared to show reasonably bright chestnut sides to neck (just an artefact of rising sun?), others just a hint, but most just blackish. One bird seen head on in centre of approaching flock of >100 in excellent light (sun behind me) showed whitish lores, conspicuous white chin and white barring on lower belly and flanks, this plumage corresponding with juv cryptus. Tail held closed but decidedly notched/slightly forked—obvious when (briefly) spread. Birds in flocks always seem to call, a (to my ear) Cranioleuca-like almost musical (not chattering) bouncy-ball song that rises then falls, this corresponding closely with Mark Robbins' 2002 Kaieteur cut of C. cryptus ML 145531. All birds appear to have similar size and structure, i.e. largely monospecific flocks, perhaps with max one or two congenerics mixed in. Flocks still present by 0940. Photos & videos.
