Observation details
Prolonged, close look at a bird that flushed from fruit trees along fence row into edge of standing corn along road. Called repeatedly throughout 3-minute observation. Initially thought it was a Bobolink when I saw it in flight, but Dickcissel ID immediately apparent when it perched on corn only 5-6 meters away. Distinctive facial pattern with pale yellow supercilium and upper malar stripe, thin blackish malar stripe, Buffy-gray auricular patch, whitish throat, pale yellow patch on upper chest. Dull solid dark grayish cap, heavy grayish bill, distinct rusty lesser coverts. Recorded calls.
