Media notes
Ruff being followed by Dowitchers
Observation details
Continuing. Larger bird than everything else around there, the Greater Yellowlegs, the Dowitchers and the peeps. Dark on back and top and very light underneath (the throat, breast and belly). Dark grayish long legs and a short bill, compared to Yellowlegs and Dowitchers. What struck me the most was its posture and behavior. It was standing up very straight when I first saw it and there was a sharp contrast between the dark top and light breast and belly (a little bit like a penguin in contrast). It moved very rapidly at times, and two Dowitchers hurried to keep up with it. The Yellowlegs were probably about the same length, but they were bent over foraging most of the time and the Ruff was very much upright much of the time, so it seemed much taller. I only got terrible distant photos.
