Observation details
Woot woot! This was a summer target of mine for Catt County and it finally clicked. Came out with a plan today to find one today and it came together. This was the best habitat I knew of - old growth deciduous forrest with lots of dead snags. It came in to tape, but on a long delay about 5 minutes after I played the "queert" call. I recorded sound of both rattle and queeert calls. I got good looks at the unmistakable bird 3x but did not have my camera with me because I carefully crossed an old snowmobile bridge over the Conewango creek and didn’t want to carry it in case I fell in. For the record the bridge seems pretty safe in retrospect. FIELD MARKS: Red head, huge white patch on wings and rump. Super contrasting with black. I believe this habitat is good for yellow throated warbler to breed and possibly Prothonotary. Miles of hiking along the creek. EDIT: I obtained photos after returning to my truck, heard it again and found it in the original area across the creek.
