Observation details
Juvenile perched atop Mallard nesting structure in pond along park road just East of Stoner Commons. Brownish plumage with small (-er than on Black-crowned juveniles) white dots on back and wings, a thick and stubby black bill with yellow base, rounded forehead and pouchy throat— other distinguishing features from Black-crowned. Uncommon but expected as a post-breeding disperser in the region during late summer, with a couple reports of other juveniles nearby in recent weeks. Photos.
