Observation details
Saw this species many times while on Leidy. I was above 11,000 feet in appropriate nesting habitat for this species. This number is most likely an undercount as I only recorded the number seen at one time. -Call a simple, high, clear, single or double note phrase that I and Merlin recognized as pipit. As I assumed this species could be confused with horned lark, I noted that the call was not as complex or as high pitch as a HOLA. -Most were heavily streaked up front and had buffy flanks. Some had a buffy breast. -In flight, white outer tail feathers with dark center of tail. - When standing they would do a light "bob".
