Observation details
Lifer! The bird reponded to playback and perched in a small bare tree. A medium-sized humingbird with a slightly downcurved bill. Green upperparts and dirty white underparts. Forehead reddish cinnamon, presumably because it was covered by polen. Whitish throat with green streaks and extensively white undertail. According to Carlos this was an immature male, but personally I think the streaked throat looks perfectly fine for a female. Distinguished from Black-breasted Hillstar by its white undertail. The expected hillstar in this area, although there are some undocumented records of Black-breasted Hillstar too and the two species could be sympatric. Photographed.
