Observation details
I spotted a Marbled Godwit sleeping near a Greater Yellowlegs in the marsh at a fair distance. As I pointed it out to Turk Duddy, who was leaving, he said it had been seen earlier. I showed the bird to a couple who had not yet been alerted to its presence, and later Charles Duncan and I enjoyed views. Shortly after 1 p.m. after taking a short video of the bird, I looked again and noticed it had departed (this was as channels and flats were beginning to be exposed). This was a medium large shorebird that initially only showed apparently plain pale cinnamon buff breast and checkered dark and buff upperparts. Eventually, the bird showed its long bill with pinkish base and black tip. It stood and preened briefly showing pale cinnamon or orange buff underwings as it stretched. The bird was long-legged and typical of this species. I could not age the bird at this distance.
