Media notes
Running away from me along the fire road.
Observation details
Possibly five. Best view of a single individual when it popped up in the coyote bush/coffeeberry along the road a bit before the last steep bit to the "bowl", foraging along side a Chickadee (!), with a Spotted Towhee nearby as well. Grayish head and back, strong white/black lateral throat stripes, eye ring and central breast spot. Three more seen toward the west side of the "bowl" (below the cave) as I entered from the east side, playing hard-to-get when I tried to walk closer. Also two persistently staying just out of sight as I rounded each turn, walking away or briefly flying into the bushes along the road as I returned; when I finally got in reasonable distance of one in a bush a bicyclist came by, flushing it for good. Aaaarrrggghhh! In the bowl I heard a few faint "tik tik" calls but no other vocalization. Lousy distant photos.
