Observation details
Large gull-like bird. Adult or near adult. Creamy white belly and underside with brown back, wings, and cap. Was sitting in a plowed part of the churchs ferry wetlands, then flew south, then NE towards Lake Alice (across Hwy 281), so was able to view the bird in flight twice and while the bird was stationary. When in flight, a full brown collar was visible across the bird’s breast. While stationary, its tail feathers did not project much further than its wings. While stationary it preened its tail feathers, and while preening I could clearly see two of its pointed tail feathers, which it had no trouble reaching the end of to preen. While in flight, its tail feathers did not appear excessively longer than its other tail feathers. When it landed, I noticed that the base of its primary wing feathers were white, which made it appear to have large white spots on its otherwise brown wings. Attaching photos from scope. *after submission comment: when standing stationary, the bird had all black legs.
