Observation details
1 killed a quail about 11 AM. Ate it where it killed it, stayed most of the day at the kill or in the elderberry tree. Waited near the entrance to the quails' snow cave beneath the tree. We could hear the other a distance away. The one here flew off to the call of the other after 4 hours or more. They circled above the Pygmy Owl in our pine tree next to the deck. Both the owl and hawk were in the elderberry tree at the same time in afternoon. Songbirds hid at first, then perched in the elderberry tree while predators were in it, too. Juncos clicked sometimes in mob.
