Observation details
Seen well from viewing stand. It was in the vicinity of three least sandpipers and one semipalmated for comparison. I immediately noticed the larger size compared to these studied the wing extension past tail for a while from different angles to confirm. I took note that the dark was limited to the breast and more smudgy. There were no distinct streaks extending onto the belly or flanks as would be the case with breeding plumaged white rumped. And it was tan and black coloured on back without any bright rufous tinge as would be the case with juvenile white rumped. The poor photo represents the best i got through my scope. Studying the photo, the black on silver spots are visible and the pale supercilium fits as well. Least sandpiper in background.
