Observation details
Clapper Rail #1 heard grunt calling from West Cove #1 at 1:11 P.M., sounding young. #2 heard calling from West Cove #2 at 1:23, 1:27, and 1:35 P.M., twice from close range all the way in. #3 and #4 heard on the east side of the Herring River simultaneously at 2:05 P.M.. The first of these rails was in the vicinity of Mill Creek (all the way in), while the second was closer to the Dike, along the east side shoreline. This 4th Clapper Rail was audio recorded. My Saturday, July 23 trip on the Herring River with Ross Sormani strongly suggests that this vocalizing Clapper Rail is a growing bird of the year.
