Observation details
Heard 1 or 2 (?) calling from the south end of the pond at 7:55 and 8:54. At 10:30 we observed 1 parent with 1 juvenile, who preened and foot-waggled a few times. I would say they were about half a mile north of the nesting platform we saw at the southeast end of the pond. It appeared there were some pieces of crustacean in the nest depression, like crawdad legs. Though unfortunately we did not observe the 2nd parent, 2 other paddlers told us they saw both parents with the juvenile yesterday. It was nerve-wracking to watch a motorboat speeding towards the loons. The parent vocalized 3 times, and thankfully the driver saw them, slowed down and steered away. Thanks to Bill Banke for the photos.
