Observation details
Male incidentally caught in raptor nets. Audio recording of chatter call from male; female didn't vocalize. Concerning Types... the following from Matt Young: "As for measurements, I almost entirely only look at bill depth to type birds, it's the most heritable and not influenced by what time of year if they're fattening up or by wear depending on what they're feeding on. Wing chord can be useful too, which makes these measurements a bit interesting. The male is definitely a Type 3 with 7.8 bill depth though. The female is either a large Type 4 or a smallish Type 2, I'd hedge Type 4." Male (presumed HY/SY by molt limits and plumage coloration): wing 90mm, weight 38.4g, nares to bill tip 16.2mm and depth 7.8mm. P9-6 new, P5-1 old; all secondaries old; primary coverts juvenile; outer 2 greater coverts retained juvenile; outer rects worn and yellow-edged.
