Observation details
Continuing wader 100 yards upstream from Hill of Life dam. Speckled subspecies. Foraging for mollusks large and small. Watched bird use its long, slightly decurved bill to probe the water and muddy shoreline to pick up, drop, and carefully dislodge its soft, succulent food. Also watched and heard the bird erupt in sharp series of startled calls in response to an aggressive Eastern Phoebe. Limpkin moved momentarily into cover along shoreline, but was back in the open within ten minutes. Photo to follow.
