Observation details
Continuing. Territorial male singing frequently from open-grown birches and forest edges at BLM field station across from intersection of Steese Hwy and Circle Hot Springs Rd. Sharp che-bek phrases given in rapid sequence, interspersed with burry call notes given when flying from one perch to the next. Voice the most diagnostic character; bold eye-ring, short bill, short primary projection apparent in close views. Bird present since at least 7 July, when first noted and recorded by D Hejna. Heard somewhat dissimilar contact calls from another bird, but could not pinpoint the caller; paired female not out of the question and should be looked for by anyone making the trip to Central.
