Media notes
This is the female. She was making a soft, purring call. I suspect she was calling for her mate.
Observation details
I was between the Hot Spot and the Steep Spot on my way back, when I heard a soft, purring sound. "Woodpecker" was my immediate throught. Then I was amazed to see a female Williamson's Sapsucker at the top of a snag about 15-20 yards away. She continued to call. I took stills and a video. Then I was more astonished to see a second Williamson's Sapsucker with her. It looked similar to her but had fresher plumage. It was below her in the snag. When she flew away, it followed. It had to be a fledgling. Pretty fun find!!
