Observation details
!!! All together. Then they paired off and faced each other bobbing their heads side to side, similar to when Europeans ‘kiss’ as a greeting. Were gathered in an area that had been cleared down to dirt in a half circle next to a tree. Photo of location is marked with red where i observed them on the ground. Two also did the side to side head bobbing while on a light pole. Only called 2x. From the Audubon Society, ‘’Males defend nesting territory with calling, drumming, and many aggressive displays, including swinging head back and forth, flicking wings open and spreading tail to show off bright underside. Courtship displays mostly similar.’’ I only could see red on the top of heads on two of them. Did also observe the wing-spreading and tail flicking behavior. Really awesome to watch with binoculars!
