Observation details
**very rare from shore; flying eastbound with purpose at 6:16am. Large, bulky, gull type thing, grayish body with white flashes in the upper and underwing, short stubby tail. In view through scope for ~90 seconds, initial thought was a Jaeger, but review of photos proved otherwise. In consideration of Great Skua (and to a much lesser extent Brown and Chilean), this bird appeared cool gray toned, with an apparently pale nape perhaps visible in some photos. While never conclusive, date and location favor this species and the sighting comes after a period of warm weather and strong S winds. Photos.
