Observation details
female along trail a little below the lower camp in the subalpine area!!! found about 6pm, watched slowly meander down hillside eating huckleberry leaves and berries (alternating between the two), then looked up as if there might be a raptor and flew up into a spruce tree where it spent most of the next 45 min eating pine needles (apparently this is how they spend the winter, and probably partly why they can be so hard to find since I never would have found it were it not on the ground next to the trail!), some photos, found a feather
