Observation details
Walking along the side of the road. This bird seemed to be alone which suggests it may simply have escaped someone's yard; however, that is by no means certain as there are significant numbers of wild peafowl that wander around the county. Over the past 4 years I have regularly seen one large feral flock of about 20 wild individuals that frequents a neighborhood out in Williams, and according to residents the peafowl are breeding, receive no human aid, and are something of a pest that homeowners are actively combating. I would not be at all surprised to find out that there is a feral breeding population in rural Josephine. Certainly the climate is perfect for them. But in any case, here's one more data point of a loose peafowl.
